Surf music may not be what you think! What is surf music? It is often defined as instrumental with no singing, aimed at youth
using instruments such as the electric guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, keyboard,
and trumpet. Surf music is an early form of rock and roll and contains a rise
and fall- like a wave, which began with Elvis Presley. The drum pattern used in surf music is often
called “surf beat.”Surf music is
supposed to simulate the feeling of waves. Here's an example of some 1960's surf music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzuSIi3TEKA&list=PLTbfT0tS1eOahHJB4uDwGiZsHTJAUrLgQ
The Beach Boys are who you may think of when you think of surf music. Technically their music is not surf music because they sang, but their lyrics are beachy. They can be defined as more beach music or California music with their pop sound. I like the Beach Boy's Music, especially the songs "Surfin' USA" "Surfin' Safari" because it encompasses the leisurely, fun culture of surfing.
