Surfer Lingo
Aggro: aggressiveness in the water or having a bad attitude
Akaw!: something surfers yell when they see a good wave or when they are surprised
Ankle busters or snappers: small waves
ASP: Association of Professional Surfing
Barney: An inexperienced surfer (a bad surfer)
Benny: a non-local
Chinese Wax Job: getting wax on the bottom of your surfboard
Choka: awesome, great
Chowder: pollution conditions
Dawn Patrol: surfing right when you wake up
Drop Knee: riding a longboard with one knee on the deck of the surfboard
Eat it: wiping out on a wave
Fakie: someone rides backwards on a surfboard
Frube: a surfer who can’t catch any waves
Gnarly: dangerous surf conditions
Green room: inside the tube or barrel of the wave
Hang ten: riding on the board with both feet directly on the nose
